Landen Lewis was as close to perfect as a driver could be in Friday night’s Window World 100 at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
Lewis started on the pole and led all 100 laps of the zMAX CARS Tour’s action-packed return to North Wilkesboro, beating Tristan McKee to the finish line by 0.918 seconds. The driver of the No. 29 Kevin Harvick Incorporated entry collected the trophy after holding off the field on a Lap 74 restart that gave Lewis’ closest pursuers hope of overtaking him, but whatever optimism they had was short-lived.
Lewis needed only half a lap to clear McKee for the final time and pull away from the field for an emotional victory.
“Speechless, that’s what I am right now,” said Lewis. “This one hits hard. These guys have worked their butts off. I’m with them every weekend, grinding with them, trying to make this race car better.”
Mini Tyrrell followed Lewis and McKee home in third, with Kaden Honeycutt and Carson Loftin completing the top five.
Lewis’ third career zMAX CARS Tour LMSC triumph moved the 19-year-old driver into the series points lead after Connor Hall, who entered Friday’s race in the top spot, ended up 10th at the finish.
The race, which was broadcast for the first time in series history by FOX Sports 1, got off to an inauspicious start after a 15-car accident occurred on Lap 2. Lanie Buice and Jake Bollman made contact in Turn 1 while fighting for second, triggering a crash that prompted a red flag and several minutes of track cleanup
