Hornaday Scores a Top-10 at The Milwaukee Mile

WEST ALLIS, Wisc. (June 23, 2008) – Driving an ill-handling race truck for most of the night, Ron Hornaday was able to  come back from being a lap down to finish seventh in the Camping World RV Sales 200 on Friday night, June 20, at The Milwaukee Mile, earning his seventh top-10 finish of the 2008 NASCAR Truck Series season.

“We were tight for most of the race and Rick Ren (crew chief) and the guys made some adjustments and freed the truck up some,” Hornaday said. “I tried to make a run to the front at the end of the race, but I just wasn’t able to get up there with those guys. Everybody on this Camping World Chevrolet Silverado team worked really hard all day and I appreciate that. There is still a lot of racing left this season so we will just take this one and go get them next week.”

Starting from the outside of row three when the green flag waved on the first of 200 laps, Hornaday consistently ran in the sixth position before settling into the seventh spot as the first round of green-flag pit stops began on lap 72. Crew chief Rick Ren decided to call Hornaday down pit road on lap 75 to make their first pit stop of the race and the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Silverado crew made an air pressure adjustment and removed a spring rubber from the left rear as they gave Hornaday four fresh tires and fuel. Hornaday returned to the track just before the second caution of the race came out on lap 79 when the No. 40 truck of Paul Poulter stalled while on the track, which caught Hornaday one lap down to the leaders.

With seven trucks on the lead lap, Hornaday restarted on lap 82 from the 12th position. During the green-flag run, he was able to race his way back onto the lead lap before the caution came out on lap 96 for debris on the track. After the race was restarted on lap 98, the caution was displayed again on lap 100 for a multi-truck accident on the backstretch. Hornaday was able to come to a stop and avoid heavy damage to the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Silverado, but came down pit road for the crew to check for flat spots on the tires. After getting the “all good” signal, Hornaday returned to the track and restarted in the ninth position on lap 105.

Hornaday raced his way into the seventh position when the caution came out on lap 146 because of inclement weather in the area. Ren called Hornaday down pit road under the caution period to take four tires, fuel and make a track bar adjustment. On lap 150, with the race still under caution, NASCAR officials decided to wave the red flag and bring the field down pit road. After a 26-minute delay, the drivers re-fired their engines and restarted the race on lap 154.

During the last green-flag run of the race, Hornaday was running in the sixth position and was racing hard with Todd Bodine for the fifth spot for several laps until lap 189, when he slipped while exiting turn two and settled into the eighth position. Hornaday was able to gather the truck back and rally to make a pass and cross the finish line in the seventh position.
